Dress Code

My oldest grandaughter, 12 years, Sammy Jo came home from school yesterday distraught. Two of her teachers made her take off the shirt she had worn to school and put on a school t-shirt they supplied her with. I was very aware of the shirt she had worn to school, as I am the one who told her to wear it. We needed a shirt to match her new purple skinny jeans. It wasn't a brand new shirt, she got it for her birthday in March and had worn this exact shirt to school last school year until school was out in May. Never was there anything said about it. The shirt in question has a scoop neckline. The teachers apparently thought that it was too low. However they also have a dress code about how short a pair of shorts can be. They apparently don't feel the need to do anything about the girls that are wearing short shorts to school. My granddaughters aren't allowed to wear these because the code doesn't allow. So now, my daughter has to go buy something that can be worn under Sammy Jo's shirts because most of the brand new shirts that were bought for school have either a scoop neck or a V neck. We didn't buy these kind of shirts because we wanted them, they were bought because that was basically all the store had.
In other news, the sun is shining and the girls will be going to the carnival at the county fair tonight. Hope your weekend is a good one. :)

  1. Really? OMG! I buy t-shirts and I know there is not a lot available that is not scoop neck or v-neck. Poor Sammy Jo. She must have felt awful.

    1. She even told the teachers that she wore the shirt last year and that nothing was ever said then. They asked her when she got the shirt, she told them for her birthday in March.

  2. What bullshit. If you as her mother approved of her shirt the Teachers had NO RIGHT to make her wear a different shirt. That is why I hated school. The problem is, if you tell those old BATS to back off, they surely will take it out on your daughter. You might demand they contact YOU before ever doing something like that agian. Stuff like this really gets me goint. Did you notice? :-)
